Trend Tuesday // It's All in the Details

For me, sometimes the thing that sells me on a product is the attention to detail.  Not only is this important in handmade shops but in big retailers as well.  While the details on handmade items usually last longer & don't hang from poorly sewn threads, I still try to pay attention to every curve, every button, & every stitch when I am out.

Paying attention to the details in my own work is sometimes frustrating & I often forget it.  A pot won't be smooth enough because I didn't pay attention to a drip or a stitch will be missed because I am just moving too fast.  Paying attention to details encourages me to remember to slow down.  It encourages me to remember it's about quality, not quantity.  Here are some details I am loving this week:

The crochet latch detail on this back pack perfect for your back to school needs.
From Marinsss on Etsy
The bold square handle cut outs of this serving & storage bowl.

The lovely details of the luggage we have listed in our vintage shop
From 516VINTAGE on Etsy.

Details make the connection for me.  What about you?

Fan Fridays // Just a Few of My Favorite Things

I am so glad it is Friday!! As I sit here with my iced sinful coffee treat in my hand & look out at the sunny day, I am a little sad because I really have to do laundry this evening. And I really don't want to.  Zach and  I have been dreaming about houses & moving, etc this week and I hope that our plans can move forward here in the next couple of months.  I am also excited about some new opportunities Five Sixteenths will be involved in this summer! yippee!!

Anyway, here's some stuff I am loving this week that just happens to be all Etsy related:

This ring from Jorgensen Studio.  I just have to have this! It is so lovely.

I am mainly in love with pottery this week because I just found out that Zach bought me a kiln.  I still can't believe it! I am also in love with pottery because I made like 7 bowls this past week that go along with my shape & scale goal for this session of classes.  Next Tuesday is the last class of this session & then we have a whole month off! What am I to do?!?! My kiln is in Michigan & I don't even have a wheel yet.  I am getting antsy about moving & making my dreams happen!

Link Love

++ Kristin posted an amazing & brave call to bloggers.  I love it when people are upfront & honest with their readers.  It really makes me happy!  Kristin is a really rad chick who likes to make her dreams possible.  While I am not religious, it really makes me happy when people thirst for self development. ++

++Jessica wore the cutest ascot in this outfit post.  I can't get over it! I want to wear one but I don't know how, I need!++

++ Chloe got super brave & took outfit photos in a thrift store of her totally thrifted outfit.  She mentioned that she's getting braver & doing more out-of-her-comfort-zone things.  You go girl!++

++Lauren from Tastes Like Love shared my growing older post & picked out a very good quote from it: "Sometimes things fall into place the exact way they should be.".  Check out the other posts in her Start your Week off With... post ++

++ The pictures in this feature interview on LCH make me fall in love.  You can feel the love between those two people.  It's awesome! ++

Edited to add:  Things that Serious-Zach says that aren't so serious:
- That he likes flavor burst ice cream.  I've never seen him eat a cone of ice cream but I bet he looks super cute doing it.
- That he thinks I am pretty or that he likes my hair.

What are you loving this week?

Tempted Tuesdays: Attractive Spreads - Vintage Bedding

I am totally in love with all of my vintage sheets & my new vintage bedspread.  All the colors & patterns remind me of nights slept over at my grandmother's house.

My sister & I shared a bedroom with two twin beds, yellow floral bedspreads, & the cutest floral sheets.  I remember my gramma would have the bedspread tucked up under the pillow & pulled back over so even the pillow was snuggly under the blankets!  I'd always use one of my grandpa's undershirts he wore to work as pj's(even after the wash they still smelled like him!) & got to stay up late with them watching tv.  I remember one night when the Sixth Sense was on, I'd finally gotten big enough to sleep in the guest room with a full bed, & was laying on my stomach watching it.....like a big girl you know.  I got super, super terrified & ran down to my grandparents' freaking out....I don't even remember what scared me so much!

My grandmother has slightly updated the bedding in the house since then.  The bedspreads on the twin beds are rather normal looking, she no longer has a chenille one on her bed, & the guest room bedding doesn't look like it came from a cheap motel (the whole room is green: carpet, bedding, etc....).  But I still love the old sheets & spreads so on this Tempted Tuesday I thought I'd search Etsy for some attractive spreads:

I love the fringe on this one from Vintage Goodies

This one looks like it belongs in my Grandmother's house..so perfect!

I am a suckka for floral! From Midwest Vintage Co

Such a perfect yellow on this one.  Killer colors!

I would change my bedspread like I'd change my sheets...every month...if I had all of these! There are many things that make me weak, linens are one of them!

Happy Tuesday!

Dorm Dec Wednesdays: Another Bunting Idea

I've been obsessed with bunting lately & am always on the look out for alternative shapes to triangles & circles.  The best one I stumbled upon today is this set of six die cut & hand painted peacock feathers:

Can you believe how gorgeous these are?
I would love to put them on a door just like that!
No Party Needed!

pick up a set of 6 from Kate Greiner here
She's also got loads of other designs too!

These are so Art Nouveau & Modern at the same time.  They remind me of my peacock ring from Icing that I got for my birthday:

Tempted Tuesdays: Bows as Belts

I've been taken by bows!  I had the sewing machine out & made a cover for one of my sketchbooks & was left with the perfect size of fabric to make a little bow.  I've also been crocheting some bow ties to be added to the shop shortly.  I am now completely smitten with bows!!

I love the idea of bow belts as well.  Here are some I've found on etsy:

I love the look of this one from Fabric Parade

this one can be a belt, headband, or necklace
from Nicta

the belt fuels my blue obsession as well.
pick it up from Absolute Queen

and finally this dress is just so sweet

Now I'll finish sending some emails to get ready for my semester & head back to the sewing machine!

What are you currently inspired by?

Also, don't forget about the February Tights Challenge!

Tempted Tuesdays: A Definite Buy

Tempted Tuesdays posted a bit too late? Well forgive me, I only just stumbled upon this awesome etsy shop!

We're all about the DIY movement right? Especially when it comes to style? Well, why not support a fellow DIY-er & designer?  This shop just rocks with all its gotta have accessories.

Just think, these are perfect for:
  • that holiday office party.
  • no office, well that holiday party your friends are throwing
  • adding a holiday flair to your work outfits (I know I need all the flair I can get working retail!)
  • that New Year's Eve party where you'll be popping champagne with the best of them
  • after the holidays when your chilly legs need warmth & a little pick me up
  • when you need some grand ol' compliments from strangers.
Do you see that? 6 great reasons to snatch up these babies!

I Love Dresses

There is one thing that I will always pick up where ever I go: A dress.

I love dresses & skirts & my closet is full of them.  While checking my blog updates today, I ran across this post on Smile and Wave about an etsy shop celebrating its 1000th sale.  Thats right 1000! If only I could get to 1000!

I popped over to the shop (Poor Pitiful Pearl) & found this gorgeous dress.  Too bad I am not a size small or I would buy it.  I am half tempted to buy it & make my sister wear it!

Go check out the shop & really cool blog!  Another great thing is that 10% of profits go to Casa Hogar Orphanage.  A shop with a cause!
