Fan Friday #93

Wooohooo!! Friday is here at last!  As I mentioned yesterday, I've spent most of this week in a fog being sick...heck on Wednesday I dreamed I was a cake I had such a fever!  I had a bit of time this week to look up happy things so here's what I'm loving this week:

This blanket in this lovely little room looks so cozy! I'm going to be crocheting some more blankets here shortly! yay!

My kiln will get it's final wiring this weekend!  I'm not ready for my first firing yet but now that the final bits will be done I can orders supplies & get this studio together.  This image is super inspiring & I can't wait to put up a few more shelves & get things going.  I can't wait for warmer weather & throwing  with the garage door open.....yay!

This print is hilarious.  I love Indiana Jones & now I live in Indiana....coincidence? Probably.

++One of my favorite & seriously inspiring ceramic artists, Lindsay of Suite One Studio, always adds things to her shop that make me happy.  She's got it going on & I need to decide what to pick up from her shop but I can't ever settle on anything because I want it all.  I also want to see what she does next! ++

++Searching fatshion on tumblr to get outfit & style inspiration.  Finding looks I love makes me happy!  ps. I still don't have any clue how to use tumblr....but you can find me here++

++Kristen of KV's Confessions opened up her Society6 Print Shop inspiring me with the if not now, then when? vibe she's got going.++

Bit of a tiny round up, but just a few things I've loved this week.  What has caught your eye?

Wow guys, I haven't done one of these is ages!  With the new job it just takes all of me to even think up new things to share!  But now I think I'm in the swing of it & when it comes to it Sundays are my day of blogging.  I try to wipe out all posts for the week in one blow.  I tried to save the Fan Friday post as something to work on Thursday night.....but that doesn't happen as you can see.  So I'm going to knock out Fan Fridays when I can, for example here's one for this week!

I've been meaning to do this for a while.  I just organized my makeup drawer - of course it always ends up all over the sink anyway - but this would be the better alternative to the cup of bobby pins in the medicine cabinet!  Sadly I can't find the original source from Pinterest.  Any help?
I really want to live up to this!  I went a lot of places in the past year...here's to many more places!  I think I've got the travel bug but only 5 days off from work in the next year.  I see a lot of weekend trips coming my way.

This sweet tutorial for cloud pillows from Making Nice in the Midwest.  Another sewing project to add to the list once I get my sewing table in the spare room together!
This print is awesome!!!  Saw this on Pinterest repinned by Maryam - love it!  This is how I feel nearly everyday because I really love my hair :) Pick this print up from BigMowth Prints
I want to one, have a sparkly clothing rack & two wrap all my hangers in pretty things!! I've always loved shops that have super cool & colorful hangers.....Another small finishing touch project to add to my home to do list!

++Remember this week's Make it Monday? Well if you love looking at pretty homescreens, I did a generic search for the CocoPPa app on Pinterest.  See pretty homescreens here!++

++ I'm super excited that I've sold some Graduation Announcements through the Stationery Shop!  I need to set aside some time to add some more stuff...time, I need more time++

++I love this post titled Choose Happy on All My Happy Endings.  Happiness is important & we totally be the main part in our happiness.++

++Ever wanted a Storenvy Mini-Store? Like Etsy Mini? Well I found this the other day & it's been sitting as an open tab on my computer for ages!  Pretty cool eh?++

Happy Weekend all!

Friday is here, again.  I'm excited for the weekend!  Still some unpacking but hopefully some relaxing.  The March Newsletter is going to go out next week & if you haven't subscribed, click here!!  Five Sixteenths is also looking for a feature sponsor to be included in the newsletter. So check the advertise page for info.

This lovely postcard DIY over on Well, It's Ok.  Zach has these little postcard sized print things we found when unpacking books for the bookshelf.  We were talking about framing them & I love this little idea!

This post over on Lara Casey blog really blew my mind.  I love the message & all the tips.  Office hours are important to me & it's one of the first things I did.  Setting up office hours helps you designate time & not feel tossed around.  This article rocks.

I love this vase DIY from Mad in Crafts.  It's super chic!  Love the spring colors.  I can't wait to start some spring DIY's!

I can't wait to set up a little sewing nook & start sewing again.  I think I have too many hobbies!  But this little pin cushion DIY over on Dream A Little Bigger has me thinking of ides.  I'd love to make a hanging one!

Link Love
++ This post on Thriftary about email etiquette.  Please do all of these things ++

++ The pretty colors in this Home Life post over on Little Big Blog.  The purples make me smile! ++

++ With setting up my desk I've set up a little shipping station & printed labels, business cards, & thank you notes.  So any purchases from 516VINTAGE & the Five One Six shop will finally have a lovely little look! ++

++ I'm looking forward to stocking the Five One Six store more, I think I've sort of amended my idea on where I want to take Five One Six.  Can't wait for adventures! ++

++ I love these mail clip organizers.  We've got a good little system going on but I can't decide if we need to move the binder downstairs or keep it upstairs.  Guess we'll see! ++

Hope you enjoy your weekend!

Another week down!  This weekend our bookshelf is coming & we are going to finish up the house if it kills us.  I swear! Finally we can begin unpacking!  I'm hoping that next weekend we can get our desks built & then we'd really be done.  My goal is no more boxes by June.  You know those little leftover boxes of stuff you don't need so you keep them packed saying you'll unpack them later? Then a year passes & you still haven't?  Well, that's not happening.  If I don't need it, it's being donated!  I also might open back up the online yard sale like I did ages ago before the move.  Sort of a shop my closet + home sale deal.

Any way, this week was totally productive: more things went into the shop, blogs were designed, photos were taken, inventory was shot.  It was a good week.  Here's what I'm loving:

Spotted Moth has been a long time favorite shop of mine.  If only I lived in California I could head out to their brick & mortar!  This Bonnie Lass dress has me dreaming of Summer.  The sale section has me drooling, too.

I wonder how Zach would feel about this little detail on the shower curtain? It it manly to add ribbons to shower curtains? Maybe I can do this in the guest bathroom downstairs :)
(the link for this was broken, but I believe it's from etsy? If you know, please share!)

This quote is awesome.  Goes a lot with my love of If your dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough and Ever tried, ever failed.  No matter. Try again, fail again.  Fail better.

These are the types of shelves I want to have under my desk.  I want to line two side by side at each end & lay a large board on top.  Is that too homemade? Do you think it will look too tacky?  I'm gonna have a long desk......but I want to to be open & have storage.....I think this is a good solution.
JC Penny has always had my heart & their new Fair & Square advertising makes me even more happy. While I've noticed that their stores have gone down in inventory since the switch & they have a better selection online, that doesn't stop me from hitting the clearance rack.  Which is what I did with a gift card the other day.  I picked up a few good transition pieces from Winter to Spring & ones I know I'd wear from Summer into Fall next year.  That top above (found here) was one of my favorite finds.  $10 at that!
I have an idea for the bathroom I need to run by the other decorator in house: Succulents!  I really want to put a lot of greenery in the bathroom.  Is that weird?  We have a black & white theme going on that I think a bunch of greenery will add to.  I'm thinking really serene looking.  I'm also thinking fern like plants, too.  We've got dark green, marble like floors.  I really think it will look awesome!
(again, no link! If you know where it's from please share!)

++ This post on using Storenvy got a lot of feed back.  I thought I'd put together a list of the shops so you can check 'em out:
++ This story about the weeping angels in Doctor Who.  So creepy.  I tried to watch Blink the other day & I couldn't get but 5 minutes into the episode.  Them angels are scary! ++

++ I am anxiously waiting on a Vox Box from Influenster.  I've never gotten anything like it before!  Influenster is really neat & I need to get on there more to write reviews! ++

++ You know how I love me some Picmonkey, right? Well I found their blog yesterday & there is an awesome how-to on adding watermarks to your photos.  You don't  have to have all of this crazy equipment to take you're blog to the next level, Picmonkey is perfect! ++

Anyway, have a wonderful & safe weekend!

Happy Friday all!  This week was a busy week, I feel like I got a lot done & I'm very proud of myself! Shops were updated, baseboards were painted, jobs were applied for, & progress was made.  However, I'm dreadfully ashamed of the way the house looks!  We'll end up spending a good chunk of Sunday cleaning things up!  Have a happy weekend everyone.

Here's what I'm loving this week:

I'm sharing this & if you steal it........I'm never talking to you again....but if this isn't my wedding I don't know what I'll do!

This Mushroom Tofu Marsala recipe looks so yummy! I don't think Zach is too into tofu, but man I love it!  In case you missed it, our kitchen essentials post went up this week & this weekend we're undertaking pasta making!

The vintage shop got a little bit of an update this week & these fun owl guys were added.  As soon as I saw them, I knew we needed to have them!  They remind me of the grumpy cat meme.

This Yankee Candle is currently my favorite scent.  Our bedroom is black, white, & a deep purple so I'm always on the look out for candles to match but I always dislike the scent of purple candles.  These black ones, named After Dark, smell so good! They kinda smell like cologne and by kinda, I mean they smell like a sexy man but in a way that makes your house smell nice too.  I bought this scent, then took a hiatus with a pink floral scent - which I didn't like - so I came back to these!

I also just bought my bridesmaid's dress for a friends wedding.  I'm not sure what the shoe requirement will be but these beautiful heels from Modcloth in the color Hibiscus might compliment my Tangerine dress nicely.

++ Learn more about feature Sponsor Rebecca of Lucky Rainbow Designs in her 25 Random Facts post ++

++ After joining in on the Fat B eCourse over on the Nearsighted Owl, I've become more aware of how people perceive others.  Maybe I was in the dark before, but this course & this link shared by Kaelah of LCH have really opened my eyes.  You're in for an amazing photography project all about people's perceptions. ++

++ Speaking of the Fat B eCourse, I can so relate to this article. ++

++ February sponsor Kat of Unbecoming got a nifty little blog make over from the Five Sixteenths Design shop.  She chose the custom upgrade option & we upgraded the circus template with custom colors, a blog button, & a welcome image.  I'll be sharing more about the design over on the STUDIO blog soon, but this has to be my favorite upgrade option! ++

++ This got a million (maybe not really a million) pins when I re-pinned it the other day.  It is an awesome invention...we may need one for traveling! ++

++ Shocking coral is one of my favorite lipsticks from the Maybelline Vivids Collection!  I'm also loving Hot Plum. ++

I've taken to holding up in a Starbucks again today!  There's nothing better than a Toffee Nut latte in the freezing snow.  We're still in Wisconsin & the weather here is so cold.  I am very over this whole snow thing.  The only good thing to come of it is that I get to wear my pink & white heart spotted sweater.  I've worn it way too many times in the past few weeks.

Here's what I'm loving this week:

Because I'm freezing I've been looking a lot at throws for our couch downstairs.  This striped one from Modcloth has me quite taken.

This Glue Guide on Dream A Little Bigger is awesome.  I always turn to E6000 for even the simplest things...but here's an extensive look at glues from school glue to mod podge to fabric glue to any other glue you can think of.  Makes me want to start sticking things to other things.

I apologize for all the Doctor Who, Stargate, & any otherwise nerdy pins I've been flooding you with on Pinterest.  Sometimes I get too carried away.  But this cute little valentine came from it, so you can't hate me too much!
(the pin only links to the Doctor Who board on Reddit, sorry)

I also picked up some new lipstick the other day.  I had a list but then I said screw it & just picked up some fun ones.  I'm loving the Maybelline Vivid colors I grabbed: Shocking Coral & Vivid Rose. The Walgreens I went to only had a few colors but I really want to grab up more.  I don't know why I was so scared of lipstick before!  I also grabbed a pale pink in Revlon but it's really glittery looking (shimmery? pearly?) & I don't particularly care for it.

I'm also excited to finally be getting the house done.  We've got to put down the baseboards & then we're done.  Next is finally unpacking! Hooray!

Have a great weekend!

Again, I can't believe another week is down.  Even more I can't believe it's the first day of February.  Wow, time sure does fly.  Today the flooring gets installed & I hope to share some pictures of the process and once we get it all done I can't wait to share a total home update!  I'll do a whole little home tour too once we've got this place in tip top shape.  This weekend I'm going to head out to try on a bridesmaids dress too for a wedding this summer.  It's so weird to know that so many of my college friends are old enough to marry!! I still remember being a Freshman!

Here's what I'm loving this week:

This Bay & Rosemary Apple Cider drink from Unbecoming.  I love that it's a fancy non-alcoholic drink!  I love a great mocktail.

I'm needing some more mugs for our little coffee bar.  We have a few thrifted ones but haven't found any fun ones lately but I stumbled upon these Letter Together mugs in the apartment section of Modcloth!

I have all the feels when it comes to Doctor Who & Harry Potter.  Pinterest is great to feed that & it's where I spotted this little drawing.  I also found a youtube vid that has since been taken down of River Song's Timeline in order.  All the feels.

This is just beautiful & I can't wait to get the spare bedroom done so I can put all of my girly things in there.  I'm so in love with floral!

This week was spent painting the downstairs & guess what.....it's all done.  The painting that is.  The laminate flooring will be delivered today & has to sit in the house for a week to get acclimated.  How picky is this laminate flooring?!?!  Also, Zach heard back that our custom bookshelf is on it's way to being built.  I can't wait to get the couch out of the dinning room & all the crap out of the upstairs!  I've found a lot that I love this week:

I found my favorite mustache mug, gifted to me from a friend online the other day.  So if you need some interesting mustaches in your life I can now direct you where to find it!

This cool tote bag DIY from Oh the Lovely Things with free downloads to make your own!

Love this pencil holder DIY from 11 Eureka.  I can't wait to have a desk of my own!  I'm gonna decorate it with so much stuff!

January has been rather eventful on the Five Sixteenths front but not so eventful on the job front.  I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong, getting interviews & being rejected hasn't ever happened to me...especially two in a row.  This week I was rejected from a small data entry gig I found off craigslist, the second interview & rejection in a row.  I'm really at my wits end here!  Seriously, I don't know what's going on & I don't know what to do.  I tailor my resume & cover letter, send them out with an application or nice, professional email overviewing my qualifications........then either don't hear back or get passed over.  Am I the only one who thinks I've got something to offer?  I know I'm competing with other candidates both equally & more qualified than myself but I don't know how to make myself a better candidate.  I don't know what more I can do, say, or be to make an impact.

I'm sorry to make this Fan Friday a little downer, but I want to keep 516 an accurate representation of my life & right now a big part of my life is struggling with finding a job.....any job.  But below are some things that I have found or made that cheered me up this week:

This awesome chevron, black & white Vintage Crochet Blanket pattern from Churchmouse Yarns & Teas on Ravelry.  I've been looking for a great bold patterned crochet blanket to make for a long time!  I've wanted to make a super awesome black & white blanket since August!

Not to toot my own horn here, but I love the new prints added to my Society6 shop.  I am in love with my color palette.

These fun Romantic Fonts compiled on A Subtle Revelry
Valentine's Day is around the corner & these fonts are perfect!

Trying to keep this in mind.

++I just discovered a site called Wanelo (short for Want Need Love) & would love for you to follow me!  I've been using it for a bit & am going to do a little review of it here soon! ++

I hope you have a great weekend, Zach & I are going to paint I believe.  I'm also going to apply to more & more jobs.  It's really a downer to get rejected & to apply to a million jobs then never hear back.

Well it's Friday (Friday, Friday, Gotta get down on Friday....) & this weekend we'll be painting the downstairs.  Can I get a woop woop? All of it will be white since I have a fear of playing with color.  My fear is that I will hate it!  The weekend is also for laundry & cleaning, I'm not excited about that.

Here are a few things I'm loving this Friday:

I've spent a good chunk of the first part of this new year working on the Stationery Shop.  I've wanted to go into trying my hand at creating wedding invitations & other stationery for a while.  Since this year is all about focusing on the details that I seem to leave out, I've been working on developing something that relies on parts - multiple colors, multiple sections, etc - to create a complete look & I think I'm doing rather well!  There's still some work to do product wise, but I had fun coding it.  Surprisingly, Zazzle's layout is pretty cool.  You can check out the shop here.  My favorite products so far are the Valentine's Day post cards & the Bridal Party Totes.

This Giant Pom Pom Crown from the Bomb Pom looks so awesome!  I want, I want!

This, which of course has a bad link from Pinterest.  Please let me know if you know where this is from!

Link Love
++ The Planner Plus app for iPad.  Seriously saving my life.  A great paper-planner alternative.  It's a bit expensive, but less expensive than buying a new planner for the blog which is what I do at the beginning of each year.  It still satisfies my need to jot things everywhere but it keeps me organized with sections.  There is a free app which I downloaded & played with before upgrading, but it doesn't show a weekly view.  I really need to see a week in advance, so that's why I upgraded but if you don't....then the free app is just as awesome!. ++

++You can win a blog design courtesy of Signed xoxo,Hannah over on the Freckled Italian.  Hurry, go enter!++

++ Over in the side bar there I added a little widget from Amazon over there in the sidebar with all of my favorite craft & business books.  If you want to know what I read on cold nights, it's usually a crafty business book! I can't wait to get them all on my side of the bookshelf when we get the downstairs together! yay! ++

Happy Friday everyone!

I love how my new blog design compliments the colors of the things I am interested in.  I am just so in love with this design.  I feel like this post would have looked so out of place in the old design....I've actually felt that way for a lot of my posts.  I know I keep saying I but really this year is about defining myself online.  So far so good!  Here's what I'm loving this week:

It's a little late, but these wrapping papers from Toffee Magazine are awesome!
Purchase issues in the shop or even just these lovely papers!

All the knitted/crocheted things in this post.  I want to cover everything in yarn!

This image on the front page of Leif.  I am in love with simple black & white right now.  That's the main reason why the STUDIO site is all black & white.  So simple!

++ I love the layout & design of the blog In Honor of Design.  It's bright & inspiring but not overwhelming. ++

++ Lesley of Pretty Little Pink Things shared her favorite books of 2012.  I love reading but have a hard time settling on a book.  The last series I read was The Hunger Games series & I loved it but I can't find adult-ish books that I like.  Maybe 2013 will change that. ++

++ Katie of Muddy Pup Pottery traveld to NYC for NYE.  I am so jealous! ++

++ If you've got a little Christmas money left over, Just Lovely Things has awesome hair accessories & shipping (to US & Canada) is only $5! ++

++ This Monthly Calendar Round Up over on Dream A Little Bigger has me swooning.  I love calendars...heck I just like planning.  All of the ones mentioned in the post rock! ++

Hope your weekend goes well! I'm not sure what we're doing but I know that today is devoted to finishing some collections/suites in the stationery shop.  I have a bad habit of having too many ideas & not enough execution.  Then...maybe...finally.....I'll code it right to look better!  Happy Friday!

Hello Friday! First, I am so happy that we've had workers here for the past week installing drywall & running electricity.  We got rid of the first guy who thought it wasn't that important to get this stuff done in a timely manner.  I am now happy to say we have a drywalled bathroom, a drywalled closet, almost a finished floor in the spare bedroom, & almost a drywalled spare bedroom.  Finally! Progress on the house! I rrrreeeeaaaalllllyyyy hope we get this done here shortly...hopefully just into the new year.  Then, we can unpack & store all the things!!!!! That's all I want!!!

Anyway, on to other things:

These paper diamonds that would look great as tree ornaments!  A really cool looking cut, fold & glue project.  You can also find more paper gem patterns here.

This giant wall of yarn.  I can not wait to have our spare room done! My desk & hopefully a little bit of the shelving unit on my side of the office will hold a whole array of crafting supplies.  I just want to buy yarn if only to put it in a display like this one.  Look at those colors!!!  Yarn just makes me so happy.  I can't even tell you.

These pretty felt ornaments.  Great to use up some scraps.  I am in love with non-traditional holiday colors.  My favorites are chartreuse & light blue, it just looks so wintery.

Fan Friday // DIY Holiday Gift Guide

I've been struggling to come up with some cool DIY gifts for my family.  I want to put some thought into all of them & not just a regular here, I made you a hat/scarf.  The hardest people to make things for are guys.  But I have settled on making hats for most of them.  I've been stumbling around the web looking for fun ideas & I've found a few:

Have someone that loves the sun? How about sprucing up a pair of sunglasses with magnetic nail polish?  Peep the tutorial on the Brit+Co blog here.  This is the perfect gift for a friend or sister.

Another tutorial from Brit+Co, make rosette jewelry from duct tape! I've always wanted to know how to make these rosettes.  At one of my jobs after college a little girl gave me a pen with a rose on the top made of duct tape.  I think she learned to do it at camp or something but I thought it was soooooo cool! Now I know how to make these!

Give a lovely handmade star to match your loved one's home decor.  Great for a theme xmas tree or for someone in college (think about those tiny dorm trees!) or for someone just starting their ornament collection.  Find the tutorial here.

Create a DIY recipe book to house all your fun family recipes & to add more too! Using a simple notebook & some lovely scrapbook paper, create a unique family gift!  Add a painted wooden spoon (I get mine at the dollar store!) & you're set.  Tutorial at 36th avenue.
