Trend Tuesday // Pattern Mixing - Geometric & Floral

Guys, summer is drawing to a close!  I can't believe we're already in the middle of August.  Kids have already started going back to school, the weather is already getting colder, fall candles are hitting the shelves, craft stores are putting out their Christmas decor (that's a definite marker of the end of Summer!).

When I was younger, I had a love-hate relationship with going back to school.  I loved the new clothes, the new supplies, and the chance to see my friends like all day everyday...but I really didn't like the actual first day of school.  Of course, as the days went on I got used to the new routines and now that I'm older I really miss that excitement.  I really do miss the whole move in time of college though.  That was the best....even though I really didn't like the physical act of moving!

My favorite summer wardrobe is a floral dress (case in point).  Many of my dresses come from LuLaRoe & Forever21.  The plus size section of Forever21 always has a great selection of floral dresses.  I'm going to link a super, super old post here so you can see how long I've been loving floral dresses.  I didn't even know that I'd been wearing floral dresses for as long as I have until I was looking through old posts to update!

Three Tips for Pattern Mixing

  1. All Patterns are Basics - floral goes with stripes, stripes goes with animal prints, animal prints go with geometric prints.
  2. Limit mixing to 2 Patterns - if you throw in too many prints, it may get overwhelming and look disheveled.  You may look like you just walked out of your laundry basket.
  3. Complimentary Colors Work Together - colors opposite each other on the color wheel work wonderfully paired together.
The great thing about floral dresses is that you can mix & match them with patterns.  I really consider floral to be an easy basic to mix & match.  Floral goes with stripes, solids, and geometric prints easily.  In this post on plus size bathing suits I blend a few different patterns with solids & florals.  Working with pattern mixing can be tricky and you may even feel like you're doing it wrong.  Like, I'm not even sure if this outfit really works but I love it!  I usually go with my intuition when picking patterns that I think work together.

The floral here is more pastel and the geometric Monroe cardigan is more vibrant.  I think the contrast of the colors + prints makes this look work.  Plus, the main color of the Monroe is orange which complimentary to the pastel blue of the floral dress.  These colors are opposite on the color wheel.  Most of the time opposite colors look great together!

So just because summer is nearly over doesn't mean I'm going to stop wearing floral dresses.  I'm gonna get my leggings and my tights as well as my winter boots and keep the floral going all year round!  You'll catch me in this floral dress in October, December, March, & June....don't you worry.

I hope you all have a great end to the Summer and wind down well into the Fall.  I'm excited for crunchy leaves and boots!  Oh, and Halloween!

How do you mix prints?  Are you brave enough?

Trend Tuesday // A Day with Lindsay & Sarah

So I don't think I've ever done a post related to bathing suits on my body on this blog. Usually I just show some nice bathing suits on other plus size bodies and call it done.  But today I really wanted to put myself out there.  I really like these suits and I really like these cover ups.
LuLaroe Beach Cover
You all know my obsession with LuLaRoe right now so I wanted to share with you how to wear two styles that are sort of reserved for winter weather - the Sarah and the Lindsay.  Depending on the fabric, these guys can been great beach cover ups.
Plus Size Bathing SuiteLuLaRoe Sarah Cardigan Beach Cover Up
Solid one piece bathing suit + patterned Sarah
I love this bathing suit!! This has been my go to style of suit for a long, long time.  I love the silhouette and the ruching.  If you're a bit reserved on the beach a solid color may make you feel more comfortable rather than a pattern.  I know that companies want to sell plus size ladies black bathing suits in the summer to be figure flattering.  While I find that to be 100% a personal opinion (and the only opinion that matters is the one of the person actually wearing the bathing suit), I also recommend getting out of your comfort zone by choosing a brighter, solid color.  Which is why I love this coral color.  I've had two of this style suits both in the same color.

Pair the solid suit with a patterned Sarah cardigan for more coverage.  I personally like patterns and find that it adds something fun to a solid suit.  The Sarah adds much more coverage to the suit and is also warmer if the beach day turns into a beach night.
Plus Size LuLaRoeLuLaRoe Lindsay Beach Cover Up
Solid one piece + patterned Lindsay
Again, a solid one piece in a fun color is very cute while still covering you where you want to be covered.  I also like the halter style of this suit - it is very retro looking.  The cut and ruching give a vintage silhouette.

Pairing the one piece with a shorter Lindsay gives a little less coverage but I love this look because I find that sometimes the Sarah may get in the way.  The Lindsay is still long in the back and will cover your booty but not as long as the Sara.  If the day is super windy......you may get all caught up in your Sarah!
LuLaRoe Beach WearPlus Size Bikini
Patterned Bikini + Solid Sarah
Now we're going to get into pattern mixing!!  I love this super structured push up bikini.  I am not sure where I got it from (maybe Wal-Mart?) but this is similar.  Wearing a bikini is something I haven't done since I was probably super young.  BUT - I find this super liberating and super cute.

Again the Sarah cardigan gives this swim suit a ton more coverage while still looking cute.  I think this helps with acclimating myself to actually wearing a bikini!  If you're wearing a solid bikini, try a patterned Sarah.  I like this solid color with the pattern to not be so overwhelming - especially with the length of the Sarah.
Plus Size Swimwear
Plus Size Swimsuit
Floral Bikini + Geometric Patterned Lindsay
This is my favorite look because it really gets into pattern mixing.  The floral bikini top looks great with the geometric pattern of this Lindsay.  A great way to pair patters is in this floral + linear fashion.

As mentioned above, the Lindsay is long enough to cover your booty, but just short enough to be super cute!  I love that this look seems to fall of the shoulder and look effortless.  The Sarah is more structured - staying up on your shoulders - while the Lindsay is loose - the sleeves are flowy and more casual.

The whole point of this post is not only to show you two ways to wear the Lindsay & the Sarah during the summer but to also show you how to wear two bathing suit styles with confidence!  Please know that you can wear whatever you like as long as you are comfortable and having fun.

While these two pieces weren't provided by Cinnamon of LuLaRoe Cinnamon Little VIP, I recommend joining her group to shop!  Find the VIP group here and follow along on Instagram.  You can read all of my LuLaRoe related posts here.

What will you be wearing beach or pool side this Summer?

Trend Tuesday // Weekend LuLaRoe Style

I shared my vision planner over on the YouTube channel recently and in that video I mentioned that a personal goal I had this year was to wear more LuLaRoe.  Now that is a weird goal, but I just love the style.  The clothes are very comfortable, airy, and fit my plus size body well.  This goal was set so that I would get back to a style that I love.  It is so easy to throw on something, anything just to get out of the house.  In college I had a pretty cool style (at least I think I did!) and LuLaRoe really gets me back to that.  I love patterns, layers, cardigans.....its just fun!
This is the outfit I wore up to Zach's parent's house in Michigan over Memorial Day.  One of the best part of LuLaRoe clothes is that they are super comfortable to drive in.  The trip is about 2 hours from our house, so while it's not an extended period in a car....its still long enough where jeans can become super uncomfortable.

This Carly is a size XL.  It's not the size I started wearing in my Carly's.  I started out wearing a 2XL and thought that fit me the best but the XL I feel falls around my bust really well and creates more of a shape on me.  It's not just a sack!
We took Frank down to the pond and he was a big help with these photos.  He sniffed out a lot of things and made sure we were in the right spots.  He also advised us that it would probably rain - even though we could tell by the clouds - so we shouldn't set up the tent and camp.
I tied up the Carly in a low knot on the right side - since I wasn't wearing leggings - and paired it with a Joy.  This is a super versatile piece.  The Joy is great on it's own but I love it for layering.  I was a little hesitant to put the jean jacket on top of the whole thing but I think it's super cool.

Layers are a big thing when it comes to LuLaRoe style!  This jean jacket has been a go to for me during the spring and I can't wait to wear it into cooler Summer nights.  You can see how I style this jean jacket with other LuLa styles in this video here (learn how I roll the sleeves too!)  The Carly and the Joy were provided by Cinnamon Little of LuLaRoe Cinnamon Little VIP.  If you want to see more LuLaRoe style click here & here.  Also read about the LuLaRoe Cinnamon Little VIP group here & here.  Check out my review of the clothes here.
I had totally forgotten that I picked up the new Locket Watch from Origami Owl a while ago.  I've not be focusing on O2 too much recently but I had to share this cool look with you.  I love adding a bunch of Summery charms to this guy.  A great way to express your style!

Weekends this Summer are going to be comfy & casual but I still want to look cute.  That's why I love the patterns, textures, and layers of LuLaRoe.  The Joy is a sleeveless cardigan type thing so you can totally wear it in the summer with out getting too hot.

What is your go to weekend style?  Any favorite looks?

Trend Tuesday// 3 Pieces to Start your LuLaRoe Wardrobe

In case you missed it I've been working with an amazing LuLaRoe reatailer - Cinnamon and Nathan from LuLaRoe Cinnamon Little - to create some helpful blog posts and videos on the LuLaRoe brand.  In this post we introduced you to the brand, in this post we introduced you to the opportunity, in this post (the one you're reading now!) I want to introduce you to the 3 pieces you should buy to start your LuLaRoe wardrobe.
The pieces featured in this post were sent to me for review by LuLaRoe Cinnamon Little, I only promote and support products and businesses I love.  All opinions are my own.  Please read my full disclosure here.

After trying a lot of LuLaRoe styles, I've made a decision on the top three pieces that will work for a lot of people who are just getting started with the brand.  Its hard get started because for the most part retailers sell online, every style is in different prints and fabrics, and it might be over whelming.  These three styles are perfect to dip your toes in the water!

The Carly Dress
The Carly dress is one of my favorite dresses because of the versatility of the style.  On the surface the Carly dress is a t-shirt style dress with a high-low hem and a small pocket on the upper lefthand bust.  The sizing is very loose, making the dress really flowy and it is the perfect dress to embrace the LuLaRoe style.  Tie this dress up, style it as a tunic, as a wrap, as a cover up, wear it with a belt, knot it at the waist.....the whole point of LuLaRoe is to create clothes that flatter many body types.  I love this dress because it can be modified so much to get so many different looks.  My favorite looks are belted and knotted in a bow to make this dress a tunic!  If you need more styling tips for the Carly dress, I made a whole styling video here.  Multiples of this dress - in a few solids and a few patterns - would be perfect for travel.  So much versatility from one dress!

The Perfect T
The Perfect T is my version of the perfect t-shirt.  How clever it was named as such!  The body of the shirt is a bit flowy, featuring a slit on both the right and left side &3/4 length sleeves.  The size I purchase - XL - fits perfectly in the bust but flatters both my middle section and my arms.  Tying the two tails of fabric on each side of the shirt is one of my favorite styles.  I like the way this look sort of gives me an hour glass shape!  The neckline of the shirt is pretty deep for a LuLaRoe style and I love that I'm not feeling super covered up.  In a really light jersey knit, the Perfect T is my favorite shirt for summer!

Leggings (of course!)
Leggings (of course!)
Last but not least, you gotta try the leggings!  I know this can be a can of worms in itself!  There are so many prints, patterns, colors, styles.....it is overwhelming.  If you want to start simple there a ton of solid colors to choose from.  I suggest jumping in with the patterns.  Keep it simple though - find a wearable pattern for you.  Perhaps try a small two color geometric print, or a more consistent floral print (like the floral leggings above), if you're lucky you may even find animal print!  Leggings are a solid way to dip your feet in the water.  I love to wear them for everything but if you want to look a little more put together I'd try rolling up the hem so you get cute little capri pants!  Oh, and leggings are pants.

These three styles, of course, are only the tip of the ice burg.  The sizing on these is also the easiest to figure out.  Even if you buy the wrong size Carly (I wear both a 2XL and XL) you can still work with it.  I do make sure I absolutely can not live with out the pattern in a Carly dress because of the price tag!  The sizing of the Perfect T runs pretty true to the sizing chart - I have an XL (my preferred size) and a 2XL.  The leggings are even easier to decide on sizing - One Size and Tall & Curvy!

If you'd like to get your hands on some LuLaRoe for the first time or the fiftieth time, check out the LuLaRoe Cinnamon Little VIP group here for a sale every Thursday!  Check out their social media links below to stay in the know -

Trend Tuesday // Summer Lovin

It has been a long, long while since I've shared a board I've created on Polyvore!  Like, a loooooooooooong time.  But today I've got some things I've been loving this summer in a lovely little collage for your viewing pleasure.

SUMMER LOVIN
find this set on Polyvore here.
this post contains affiliate links, please read the full disclosure here..

I've been loving some harem style pants for the summer.  I actually picked some up from Meijer a year or so ago and didn't wear them until this year.  I find that they are super comfy!  I like the patterns so I pair it with a white shirt.  I picked up some Birkenstock-esque sandals from Walgreen's of all places and love how comfy they are.  They are actually the inspiration for this post!  I've also been living in some easy slip on flip flops like these rubber white ones.

When it comes to storing my planner stuff, I have a new planner bag.  It is the pink variation of this blue bag from Crown & Ivy, sold at Belk.  I picked it up over my vacation in North Carolina for my family reunion and love it.  it has so much room, plus there are pockets on the outside!  I love that it is so colorful and roomy.  Easy to carry too!  I just took a peak on the website and Belk is a part of Ebates rewards!  (At the time I'm writing this it is 4% cash back.)  So don't forget to either activate your cash back or sign up here for some additional savings!

I'm also digging one of my old time loves - Claire's!  I picked up a few fun phone cases before my recent vacation and I want to pick up more!  I don't currently have the hot dog, but I do have a fun cactus with glasses, some sushi, and some french fries.  Unfortunately they don't fit the iPhone 6 plus though.

Finally, I'm digging this L'Oreal contour palette from the drugstore.  I love how it applies and how easy it is to blend.  I've been loving topping the harsh contour with a light bronzer, like the Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer from Too Faced.

What are you loving this summer?  Any top beauty picks?

Current Summer Make Up Favorites

If you haven't noticed, I've been pairing down my make up routine lately.  I'll start with a full face on Monday and by Friday I'm lucky if I even have on concealer. (My favorite concealers are in this post!)  See the thing is....I like to sleep a bit longer!  I've been just doing a bit of concealing, some lipstick, my brows, and mascara lately but on a recent trip where I knew I needed a foundation with a bit of SPF, I rediscovered a BB cream I got from Big Lot's of all places.  I'm not sure if you can get this anywhere anymore...the only listing I found was of one left on Amazon.
this post contains affiliate links, please read my full disclosure here
The Epielle BB Cream has become my go to foundation because it is easy to apply, light weight, but has a the coverage I'm looking for.  My face has gotten better recently - with redness and overall acne/breakouts - so I've been going for lighter coverage.  For some reason my usual full face, full coverage look hasn't been appealing to me.  I've been loving a lighter, fresh faced look....which is surprising!!  This BB Cream has SPF 20, claims to moisturize, prime, smooth, brighten, even tone, and protect.  It also says it has sheer coverage but I'm surprised at how well it evens my skin.  It is a great base for natural summer make up.
In addition to the BB Cream I've been setting my face with the Balm Sexy Mama translucent powder.  This is also something I rediscovered!  I love that it is light weight and I really do think it keeps me nice and shine free for a good long while.  The compact does have a mirror but no little sponge so it's not that great on the go - I am thinking about sticking it my puse though because I have a retractable kabuki brush with me.
For blush I've been loving the subtle look of the Elf Mineral Blush in Jet Setter.  I have all four of the shades and a review + swatches of them all in this post.  Jet Setter has to be my favorite of all of the blushes in the collection.  It is matte and just the perfect shade of a natural flush.  I find this blush is perfect all year long.
As for lips, I've been going more natural if you can consdier it that.  Sort of the my lips but better shades.  I've been loving the Too Faced Melted lipstick in the shade Melted Fig for a while now and pulled it out again for the summer.  Some other natural colors I've been loving are the Elf Moisturizing Lipstick in the shade Wink Pink and the Wet N Wild Megalast Lipstick in Rose-Bud.  Side note: I can't wait to see if & when the Wet n Wild Fergie line comes out with anything crazy for the Summer.   Last year I snatched up all their fun lipstick shades!

As always I suggest if you're going to do any online shopping for beauty products to see what kind of deals you can score through HauteLook and Ebates.  The Balm is on HauteLook quite often so keep a look out.  Amazon also has pretty great deals on The Balm as well.  If you're shopping on the Elf website I just found that they are a part of Ebates now!  Ebates gives you cash back for shopping through their link - just go to the Ebates website, search the retailer you're looking for (like Eyes Lips Face) and you'll be securely redirected to the retailers site and if you purchase, you'll earn whatever the cash back deal is at the time.  I use Ebates any time I purchase high end make up online - I used it to purchase a Mac MSF through Nordstrom since Mac isn't a part of Ebates (plus I believe Nordstrom does free shipping! score!)

What are your go to Summer make up staples?  Anything new you're trying out?

xoxo, Moe

When will it be Summer Wish List

the snow is still going strong here in northwest Indiana and I am ready for some warmer weather.  I am ready to start complaining about how dang hot it is!  I've already brought Spring to the etsy shop with some vintage floral notes pages but I really need this Winter to turn into Spring and the Spring to turn into Summer.

I threw together this little wish list of sorts to persuade warmer weather to head my way.  I can't wait for bright lipstick, iced coffee, sandals, and sunnies.  C'mon Spring! C'mon Summer!

Are you wishing for warmer weather?  What's it like outside where you are?

Trend Tuesday // Glowing Face Products for Spring & Summer

There are some awesome drug store price highlighting & glowing products coming out for the summer months this year.  I know there's a little bit of controversy on glowing face products in the summer - do you really want to look glowy in a season where sweat is prevalent?  But I feel like Spring & Summer are the months when your skin is the brightest after a dull winter & the glow just adds to the over all healthy look of your skin.  Personally, I like a softer glow to my skin.  Below are some bright highlights and softer glow products.
As you can see there's a ton in this little box!  All these products are from the drug store and there's a lot...so I hope you have a cup of coffee ready, you'll be here for a bit!
These two products are from Hard Candy Cosmetics found either on their website or at WalMart stores.  On the left is the So Baked Bronzer in Tiki.  Much like the Wet n Wild Color Icon Bronzer in Reserve Your Cabana (also in this list) this isn't really a bronzer but more of a peachy, skin toned highlight.  The blurry swatch is on the left in the last picture.  I love this one for a subtle, highlight glow.  If you can pull it off, you might be able to use this as an all over setting powder.  Both Reserve Your Cabana and the So Baked Bronzer in Tiki remind me a little bit of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders.  I'm too oily to use it all over my face but if your skin is dry, this might just give you the all over brightness you're looking for.

On the right is the Hard Candy So Baked Contour Trio in 3rd Wheel that features a highlight, a blush, and a bronzer.  The highlight, swatched on the right in the last blurry photo, is a light pink-champagne highlight.  I also love this as a pretty soft glow.  The blush is a nice rose glow pink & the bronzer has a sheen (it's not matte).  My favorite of the three sections is the highlight which is why I'm including it in this post.  There are four shades in the Contour Trio line and 3x a Charm looks like the bronzer might be light enough to use as a highlight as well.
I'm not sure why these are called shimmer palettes because it's just one pan of one product but they sure are beautiful.  The first one I feel in love with was Rose Champange Glow - I liked it so much, I bought a back up for fear of it being a limited edition product.  There are three permanent Shimmer Palettes - Rose Champagne Glow, Rose Golden Goddess (swatched on the right in the bottom photo), and Carnaval in Rio.  The picture above features two of the Limited Edition Shimmer Palettes for Summer 2014 and I have to say that Video Bomb - the marbled, peachy pink palette in the top two photos is my new favorite.  The palettes in the top two photos, clockwise starting from top left are Rose Golden Goddess, Photo Bomb, & Video Bomb.  Both Video Bomb & Photo Bomb are the limited edition colors.  They are so gorgeous I had to throw them in here.  The bottom photo with swatches from left to right are Video Bomb, Photo Bomb, and Rose Golden Goddess.

These palettes are huge so you'll have them for ages but they are versatile too - use as a highlight or eyeshadow and Rose Golden Goddess & Carnaval in Rio could be used as blushes.  I have one of my first ever YouTube tutorials using the permanent palettes for a Summer bronze look here.
This I've had for ages - I didn't share a picture of the packaging closed because nearly all the writing has rubbed off & the clear top is so dusty!  But this is the perfect nude chanpagne, skin toned highlight for me.  I love the way it sits on the cheek bones!  All of the Color Icon bronzers have SPF in them so if you could use this all over your face, you'd get a dose of your SPF.  Having SPF means it also expires.  My current one will expire this November but as you can see the sun detail on the right side of the product is still nearly intact and I feel like I'm never going to get through it all.  I use this as a subtle highlight on the cheek bones so it's going to take me ages to get through.  I'm not sure if the expiration date purely means the SPF is done or that I shouldn't put this on my skin any more period.
Elf Shimmering Facial Whips
These are the most affordable highlights ever!  These Facial Whips as they are called are $1 at places like Walmart & Target, and even the Dollar Store.  There are quite a few colors here but swatched above from left to right are Lilac Petal, Spotlight, & Toasted.  Currently Toasted isn't available on the Elf website...but thats where I got mine.  They are a whipped, cream type of product and squeeze from the tube in little pearl shaped dollops.  Each of them will sheer out to be the same general color & I find the best way to apply them is with a stippling brush (Elf has a small stipple brush great for that).  Even thought Toasted isn't available now it's a great product to mix into your foundation for a luminous glow.
Maybelline Master Glaze Blush
These are a new product & with each collection, Maybelline is coming out with more & more colors.  The two pictured above are limited edition in Nude Rebellion & Barely Pink but each of the Master Glaze Blushes offer a bit of glow & shimmer.  The lighter shades are perfect for a highlight but for a little glow from with in use these under your powder blush.  I like to apply my liquid foundation then put on cream products - like cream blush - and then put on my setting powder, then top it with a little blush.  This will intensify the color but also give you a little glow under a matte blush.

All of these glowing products hit all the price ranges!  If you're not familiar with highlights, give these a go.  Additionally, try a cream highlight if you haven't...they are nice too.

Trend Tuesday // Summer Staples that Never go out of Style

There are quite a few things that I've had forever that haven't ever seemed to go out of style!  I love picking up things that I can wear & use for quite a while - I need to be better at it, in fact.  But here are a few things that are always, always going to be trendy in the summer:

Summer Staples

Iced Coffee - This isn't really a summer fashion staple, but come on...when are you ever going to not stop by your favorite coffee place for their yummy iced creamy deliciousness? Seriously.

Bangles - I have bangles that are 3 summers old that are still relevant.  I lucked out & picked out some great colors, but even plain gold bangles can last you many summers (and falls & winters).  If you want to save a few bucks, head to your craft store to pick up some beads & elastic to create easy summer trends.  (Check out this post for some inspiration)

Canvas Shoes - Whether it's Converse or Keds, canvas shoes will always be a go to for Summer.  Great for camping, boating, shopping, etc these shoes will last you many, many summers.

Strappy Sandals - Pick up a pair of neutral strappy sandals & you'll have a great Summer staple for many summers ahead.  I've got a pair from the first summer in Williamsburg!  When I had to pick up some ugly, yet comfortable black shoes for the resort I worked at I picked mine up.  They've held up well & in fact the first time I've bought more sandals was this Summer!

Blush/Bronzer Duos - Any duo or palette will do because you'll be traveling a lot during the Summer & you don't want to bog down your carry on with a bunch of different products.  Currently my favorite little duo is the one above from e.l.f.

Maxi & Mini Skirts - Because comfort will never go out of style, these skirts will always be in.  I've stayed away from the hi-low trend (it's not that flattering on me) and I don't know if it's going to be around next summer.  But pick a bright color & a neutral....you'll know you'll always be on trend.  I found some short skirts in a bunch of colors at Target last summer - they were the perfect summer colors & great to wear this year too!

Jean Shorts - Since the dawn of the jean, I'm sure jean shorts have been in.  Simple ones can always be glammed up with accessories & you can even stop by your local thrift store to distress a pair of cut off jeans to match ones you've seen in stores.

The Satchel - Because you will always have to cary things & it is always more comfortable to carry it across your body.  I have 4 totally perfect, totally neutral, & totally relevant cross body satchels in various sizes.  I have a lot of purses, but I swear I go back to these 4 all the time.  Look for simplicity, you don't want anything too trendy or anything that will be out by fall or next summer.  Simple lines, lots of pockets, not too much flash are the things you want to look for to use this back Summer after Summer.

These are my Summer staples that seriously stand out in my wardrobe & cup holder this Summer.

What do you wear year after year? Any beauty products you'd like to include?

xoxo, Moe
