Giveaway Time! Win a Diamond Candle!

What better way to greet a Tuesday evening than with a giveaway!  Today on Five Sixteenths you can enter to win a Diamond Candle of your choice from the website DiamondCandles.com.  If you haven't heard of Diamond Candles, let me introduce you:
Diamond Candles is a great website featuring high quality 100% soy candles that are eco friendly & natural.  Each candle not only comes with the perks of being a candle that burns evenly & fills your house with a beautiful scent, but you get a ring in every candle.  Burn your candle to reveal real rings valuing $10, $100, $1000, or even $5000.  Each candle comes with a ring!  What a great thing to look forward to!  You can read more about the origins of the Diamond Candle brand on their About Page here.

My Candle - Review & Reveal
The lovely Diamond Candle brand offered me a free candle of my choice to review before hosting the giveaway.  I placed my order, choosing the scent Ocean Dr & anxiously awaited my box.  Once it arrived I was instantly surprised by the weight of the candle.  The container is glass, features a lid, & is 100% soy. Once I opened my package I instantly trimmed the wick & lit it.
I hung out in the living room, watched some TV, & ignored it like one tends to do.  Then after a bit I realized the scent filled the entire room!  I was pleasantly surprised!  The scent I picked is very beachy & really reminds me of summer.  I plan on burning this candle down until I break out my fall ones mid-september!
Not only does the smell fill the room, but the candle burns clean & evenly.  Theres no hole down the center of the pillar.  There is a nice pool of wax burning evenly down the entire container.  On the back of the glass container you can see that there is a little gold, foil package eagerly awaiting you to burn your candle for 15 hours to reach it.  I burned this candle each  night after work for a few hours until I was able to reach my little gold foiled package!
Following the instructions I blew out the candle, waited for the wax to cool a bit, then pulled out the foil with a pair of tweezers.  Be careful! It was covered in a bit of wax, but the ring is tucked in a little baggie, then folded up in the foil, then placed in the candle so the ring is safe & sound.  As I unwrapped the foil I found a cute little silver colored ring with a flower & green stone.  While I wasn't lucky enough to get a 14k ring I still think these candles are great!

These candles retail for $24.95 - a great price for the quality of candle, even if there wasn't a ring inside! Seriously, these candles are great & the price is perfect for an even burning, beautifully scented candle that fills your room with fragrance.  The current candles I have in my house don't even fill a room!  I'm lusting after the Relax & Revive scent (a blend of lemon verbena & fresh mandarin lime) & the Rosewood Candle (which features sandalwood).  These candles make great gifts for a friend or for yourself & look great with your decor.

Giveaway Time // My Memories Scrapbooking Software

While I was on our trip to Michigan, I was contacted by MyMemories.com about reviewing their scrapbooking software.  I've never been big on scrapbooking mainly because the papers & doo dads are too pretty to cut & use in such a permanent way! I did a bit of scrapbooking in middle school & that was the last time I'd played with it.

A digital option seemed like an awesome idea: I could use all the paper I wanted with out it running out, there was no permanent cutting & pasting, and I'd have a digital copy to email, make a video, or print.  Awesome right?  But then I thought 'Isn't digital scrapbooking for like moms who want to document their kids...I don't know about this...'  Boy was I wrong! The best part about a digital option is that you get choices! You can change, re design, & create your own layouts with a whole bunch of elements that match YOU!

Downloading the software means you get a lot of papers & elements initially.  But you can also purchase more sets or subscribe for $5.99 a month to their Design Club for access to sets.  I've been considering doing that since each set has an individual cost that varies.

Some of my fave parts + the basics:
I hate reading instructions! I try to figure things out on my own & this software is really easy for that.  Everything is pretty straight forward from adding photos to picking colors.  The left side bar holds the photos from the folder on your computer & the right side bar holds all the manipulations you can do.

You can create albums in standard sizes or your own custom size.  For my Michigan album I chose to create the standard square type of album.  As a separate free download you can turn your albums into movies to upload on to youtube! This would be great for wedding photos, travel photos, etc...even great for school projects, like an alternative to slideshows.
This is the color picker.  My fave options are the palette & the picker.  You can choose colors already existing in your album to create a cohesive look.  PIck from the background colors to colors in your photos.  Even from the decorative elements.  You can see in the top image here that my photos are in the left side bar.  The resource gallery also resides there.  It's almost a simpler version of a photo program.

It also took no time to create an album with my five pages.  If you have more it may take longer,  but I made a little video with more pages & it didn't take too long.

Choosing backgrounds was hard! I chose the vintage set that came with the software download because I loooooved the chevrons.  It also had an amazing layout that was sorta mod which was perfect for my Calder photos of La Grande Vitesse.  I put my album in a collage but you can see each page by page here

I also made a little video to share with my family.  So many ideas were running through my head about what this could be used for! Since the prospect of eventually moving to Michigan is looming, sharing our everyday life & our adventures with our families is going to be important.  This digital software is a great outlet! Imagine a video of family reunion pictures, wedding pictures, travel pictures, or even a year sum up video you can put on a DVD & send with your xmas cards.  Oh man, I'll have to save that one for this Christmas!

Now for the good part: you can win a copy of the My Memories Suite! Isn't that rad! I've also got another discount for you: check out their site & use the coupon code STMMMS31471 for $10 off the purchase of the software...but enter so you have a chance to win!  (if you do purchase, there is another $10 off coupon for the software store included!)

Pink Paper Packages Tied up With String...

Mailing out packages is one of my favorite things!  I am not sure if I am doing this right, but I love making things & sending them to people.  I love when people win giveaways, I love when I get orders, I just love making things from the heart.

Anyway, here's the result of the Birthday Topper Giveaway:

The one on the right is the topper I used for my cake.
The one on the left is the one wrapped up all nice to send to the giveaway winner.

I went to the post office today & got the mean clerk :(
I was super nice, since she was mean to another woman the last time I was in there, but she didn't budge on her scrooge attitude.
:( oh well.....

Here it is packaged up nice:

Just so you know, you can still purchase some awesome scarves & hats @ With Love.  They may not arrive in time for Christmas...but a gift is a gift!

Happy Holidays! You know I will be blogging up until (and probably on) Christmas lol

Dorm Dec Wednesdays: Countdown to my Birthday! Part One

Today marks 3 weeks (exactly) until my birthday.  Now, traditionally I am not home for my birthday as exams seem to always fall that week. BUT this year, I will be home!  I love celebrating birthdays.  I love my birthday because it is one day after my mom's birthday.  I find that kind of weird & only ever met one other person who has that same thing in common.

Also, on this day, I get to celebrate it however I want.  (yay!) I am such a control freak & plan all of the celebrations in my life, that making my cake every year doesn't bother me.  In fact I am sure if I didn't make a big deal of it no one else would.  Usually I make a 4 layer cake, alternating strawberry & lemon, with purple icing, sprinkles & other ridiculous decorations on it.

This year, I am going to take it super seriously! Ok, I lie, I am not going to take it that seriously.  But I am going to feature a color scheme, some recipes for fondant & some cake topper things I want to make.  Just to keep a record & spice things up.

The great part is I would love for you my wonderful followers to help me out!  I appreciate you all sooooo much  & am so thankful I've found other bloggers who love the same things I do.  You all rock!  I am also going to do a giveaway of a second topper I make that matches mine.  So if you follow these posts all the way through, you'll have a say in what goes into the whole shebang!

This first installment is about deciding on colors!  My favorite color is purple but I am open to new schemes that suite me.  Here are a few colors I am thinking about:

one

two

three

four
I used Color Scheme Designer. It's pretty cool but I think something else might have worked better

Of course the icing will be a paler color (I think, since I think I can make that sort of color) but the other colors would go into the sprinkles, etc, & the topper!

Taking it to serious? I want to have a pretty cool looking cake & perhaps I want to start party planning. :)

Please leave a comment about your favorite! Make sure you don't miss next week's installment about cake toppers & remember to enter the giveaway  next week during Dorm Dec Wednesday!
