Tempted Tuesday // Weekend Requirements

It's getting warm here & I find myself needing a weekend getaway. As May approaches, I am reminded that Zach & I only have a few weeks left of being in the same state.  Soon, he'll head back to Michigan as his military contract is over.  He's on the job hunt & we'll be apart.  He's been gone before, and it was hard.

But as the sun comes out I am hoping we can get one more excursion in before he leaves.  I love traveling & didn't have the chance to do it much because traveling is much more fun when you have someone to share it with.  We've taken weekend trips to DC, to Charlottesville, to Roanoke, and even 10 day trips to Michigan!  So for our next weekend getaway, even though it won't be warm this is what I'd pack:

I found this awesome bag from Spotted Moth (here's another color too!) which would be a perfect weekend duffle.  I love the chevron pattern, of course, and it just screams 'take me somewhere warm!'  Spotted Moth is one of my fave online haunt..I have a nice small cross body bag from there. I need to pick up something else.
Any way I'd fill this bag to the brim with:
Some remixable outfits.  A nice comfy (i.e. fit) pair of shorts & a few comfy shirts.  Ideally, you shouldn't spill any froyo or other delicious food on your pants as you'll wear these both days you're sight seeing.  A flirty dress for a nice evening out.  A walk a long a board walk or under street lights after a yummy meal at a cool local restaurant.  The good thing about traveling in the Spring/Summer is that things are easier to pack because they are lighter!

Fun shoes for a night out for a nice dinner & that walk under the streetlights. Comfy flats you'll be able to walk around in, maybe even some sneakers but how is that chic?  Comfy worn in sandals always do the trick for me.  And of course flip flops for the beach excursion I'd love to go on.  Spending a day soaking up sun with the one you love just sounds like paradise, doesn't it?

Some fancy accessories would take up space too.  The scarf (if it's big enough) can double as a wrap skirt  or makeshift shirt for a beach cover up.  I love a hand full of rings, flashy sunglasses & a sleek cross body bag.  This yellow bag is the best!

Finally for a beach bag.  Rolling up a canvas bag & sticking it in your weekend bag makes it a great compact way to bring a beach bag a long with you.  Don't forget the sunscreen & tunes.  Since my iphone doubles as a camera, sometimes I feel like I don't have to bring my DSLR.  I am still getting used to using my DSLR in real life so sometimes I forget it..sometimes I don't want it to get ruined so purposely leave it at home!

I really hope we can catch a weekend away between his job interviews & before he heads out to Michigan!  It's been hard when he's been gone & it's gonna be harder knowing that there's no set date for him to be back.

What do you pack in your weekend tote? Any fun spring plans?

Sum up Sunday // A Typical Weekend

Weekends are the best time of the week.  The week is over, no work for two days (three in my case), I get to sleep in, wear PJs all day, eat a yummy breakfast, & work on what I love.  One of my ultimate favorite parts of the weekend is breakfast.  Breakfast is probably the best meal of all of the meals.

Zach & I alternate between what we eat for breakfast: sometimes it's just cereal, sometimes it's pancakes, sometimes we fend for ourselves, but most of the time breakfast involves some sort of eggs & bacon.  This morning was no exception.

Since Zach cooks most of the dinners in the relationship, I try to cook most of the breakfasts (since, really, how can you screw up eggs!?!).  I haven't bought bacon in a while but found this sort of pre-cooked, sliced ham that I usually fry up in it's place.  It tastes great & you can throw it on an english muffin with your eggs & have a little ham-egg-muffin sandwich thing.  I love it because it gets the greatest tasting little  glaze on it.

Zach likes his eggs scrambled & super burnt so I usually make his first to get the pan nice and hot for my 'hockey puck' eggs.  I like my eggs hard in the center or scrambled (but not burnt) with some strawberry jam. Yum!

This morning I opted for some yummy Lemon Blueberry Crisp Cereal that was on clearance at Target.  I've also started a love affair with almonds so threw some of that in too.  The photo above is pre-milk because I didn't want it to get all soggy!!  I am really enjoying discovering adult cereal as I like to call it.  Cereal that isn't sugar frosted & satisfies my sophisticated tastes. (yeah right)

I consider weekend breakfasts with Zach to be another mini date.  We get to sit together & I really enjoy that time to just sit & relax.  Neither of us have work or anything serious to worry about during that time so we just sit & eat....maybe watch a Stargate episode (or two).

So here are some great Mini-Date Easy Breakfast Ideas I like to throw together:
- The Classic - eggs & bacon (or ham slices)
- The Handfull - english muffin, toasted with scrambled (or hockey puck) eggs, bacon/ham. Side of strawberries (our fave fruit!)
- Take the Cake - a big ol stack of thin pancakes (think nearly crepe thinness)
- Cereal Offender - choose either the kind you enjoyed when you were a child or a yummy adult cereal like the Archer Farms brand from Target.

So what is your favorite part of the weekend?  Does it involve food?

Everybody's Working for the Weekend

This week has been super busy at work! Every time I turn around there is another paper on my desk waiting to be filed somewhere else.  This has to be the busiest week yet!  It's probably because it's the first week after the holidays & people have a bit of motivation!

I just can't wait for the weekend so I can do a little bit of these things:

Play a bit of this fun game called Tiny Tower.  I am a bit obsessed!
Do you see I got a devil, a sailor, and Indiana Jones riding in my elevator!

I've been a bit obsessed with painting my nails lately.  Usually I never paint them because I get lazy & when they start to chip never take the polish off.  I end up looking like a high schooler with chipped nail polish & it's not professional or attractive.  I've gotten a new found obsession though since discovering some no-chip polishes & some great top coats.  I've also started putting a few too many coats on which is a bad thing -takes too long to dry- and a good thing -decreases chipping & makes em stronger-.

I need to get back to blogging better content.  This weekend between the puppy cuddles, I am going to focus on some new things to blog about.  Usually I blog from where ever they heck I am & 9 times out of 10 it's in bed.  I love being in bed....I hate getting up, I love sleep, & the foam mattress topper I have just makes it so much more comfy!!  I am so looking forward to sleeping in on Saturday.

I also can't wait to try out some more paleo recipes with my man this weekend.  I am excited to try to change up my lifestyle.  Only Veggies, Fruit, Nuts & Meat! You should have seen the yummy, yummy salad I had last night! mmmm-mmmmm!

What are you looking forward to this weekend? Any plans?

Columbus Day & Last Week Wrap Up

This past Columbus Day I spent in a Naval History Museum.  It was pretty cool, kinda weird to be in an 'Age of Exploration' exhibit on Columbus Day.  We watched a little film about the recovery of the turret from the USS Monitor after it sank outside of the Outer Banks during the Civil War.  We saw a lot of maritime history things, what the inside of cabins looked like on the Monitor, learned more about the Titanic, etc.  A neat place to go.

I've also embarked on an endeavor that I don't want to mention just yet for fear of a jinx. But it involved eating a delicious meal:

Do you see this lunch here?

baked potato, green beans & onions, chicken & pasta.  Epic Lunch time!  It was so delicious but so large.  I didn't eat it all.  Oh, for the record...someone made this for me.  They. Made. This.  I was impressed.

Over the weekend before Columbus Day, we went camping.  It was really nice even though I think it stirred up my allergies which may or may not lead to a cold.  I've been taking Airborne, but we'll see what happens.

We headed out Saturday night & built a great campfire.  We cooked some weenies & some smores & played with the puppy.  He liked camping because he realized he could pee any where pretty much.  We made sure that #2 was done elsewhere though.

My room mate told me that the puppy dog didn't really get the concept that just cuz they were sleeping on the floor didn't mean the whole floor was the bed.  It was a bit chilly & I had one of those mummy sleeping bags which was great except I like to sleep sprawled everywhere.  That was not possible with that sleeping bag!  Our other friend who moved away was visiting so it was a great catch up with her.  We talked about dating, jobs, life, etc.  Commented on the fact that my room mates have been married for about two months.  It was a good friend session!

We improvised with pancakes (maybe I'll tell the story later) & then headed out that morning.  It was nice to get away for a little while.

What did you do this past weekend?
Hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday!

Sum Up Sunday // Week in Review

This week I did a load of stuff! I took my first ceramics class at the rec center, I participated in Kitchen Band & started playing the guitar, I recruited four students at work, & got a bonus.  The ceramics class is a wheel throwing class of which I despised in college.  The one class I did take I could chose between wheel & hand building once we learned the basics. You know I chose handbuilding!  Kitchen Band is a group of people that sit around & strum on instruments while eating good food, laughing, & teaching.  Pretty much I just played like 3 chords the whole time.  We played for about 2 or so hours.  This next week we are hosting it at our house!  I probably won't get in any practice....but I don't think it matters.  As long as I play the right chords at the right time.

This week the puppy decided to sleep on top of my legs, the weather was cool enough to break out the fall gear, my wardrobe is getting up to about 50% thrifted items, and I made some lovely muffins.

How was your week? Anything exciting happen? Are you excited for fall?

Etsy Update // the Weekender

Five Sixteenths has great news! With Love Crochet is now open for business!  I am so excited to introduce the Weekender!

The weekender lives for the days she can wear big cardigans & curl up on the back porch.  The weekender feels like dreaming durring her nine to five work week.  The weekender packs her bags on Thursday because she leaves for a trip right after work on Friday.  The weekender is a free spirit, lives for the autumn leaves, & loves layers.
This style is perfect for fall.  Each piece can be layered with existing pieces or paired with in the shop.  Perfect to mix & match with your vintage (or new) favorites.

How will you wear this style?

My Labor Day in Pictures

It was a wonderful time being able to spend a weekend with my family at the Lake.  Boat rides, margaritas, hamburgers, etc.  Sadly no ice cream since we only were there for three days but believe me I was drooling over all of the fixins'!  My 3 day weekend in pictures:

Too freaking cute!

My room mate & I met up with my parents at my grandparent's house & we had a fun little get together where the two little puppies (ours & my parent's) became friends. They ran around the yard, got in the pool, ate some treats, took some naps.  It was a fun little day.
